This project focused on highlighting the redevelopment potential of both secular and religious heritage sites and their surrounding environment, catalysing the progress and urbanization of the last royal capital of Myanmar. The collection and analysis of data was carried out across specific areas of Mandalay, thereby developing alternative scenarios of how such areas could be improved in conjunction with Asia Development Bank’s (ADB) activities. The results of the project will be used by the ADB to develop their strategy and action plan.

The primary objective of this project was to reduce human, social, economic and environmental losses that resulted from natural disasters across coastal and urban areas of Myanmar. This was interwoven with a secondary objective to increase resilience of institutional authorities and unguarded communities in such vulnerable areas. The baseline survey that was carried out in this regard validated the project logical framework indicators and targets, while also providing a global overview of the prevalent situation of the institutional and physical environment of the project. The baseline status of the project indicators were measured to provide a basis for comparison and impact assessment on completion of the project.

National authorities of Myanmar and local stakeholders of Greater Yangon required technical assistance to define their strategy for the conception of a comprehensive and concise synopsis of existing master plans for urban development, co-constructed with the aforementioned stakeholders. Assistance was also required in strategizing the preservation and enhancement of the architectural heritage of Yangon through the emblematic ‘Warehouses Project’. In addition, the identification of the capacity building requirements to support these authorities in this large-scale integrated urban development project was also carried out. The project resulted in the identification of USD 15 million in investments for the advancement of Yangon’s urban infrastructure.

This project required an analysis of the Urban Development Policy and regulatory framework of Sri Lanka, to thereby identify potential urban operators who would qualify for financing by the French Development Agency (AFD). The process involved the preparation of an overview of the urban sector for possible AFD operations in Sri Lanka, and the identification of urban operators who are befitting of long-term partnerships with the AFD. This was followed by the analysis and evaluation of projects in the pipeline, identifying opportunities for the AFD to partner.

This preliminary study was conducted for the financing of the integrated rehabilitation operation of historical sites across nine countries of the South Mediterranean. It involved the development of an evaluation system and list of learnings for rehabilitation projects of UNESCO sites, and the resulting improvement of social and economic conditions of the project locations. A comprehensive technical analysis of the project that included urban assessment, technical, economic, political and financial audit of actors was carried out. Stakeholder liaisons as well as the coordination of the steering committee that included representatives of the World Bank, the European Investment Bank (EIB), the French Development Agency (AFD), the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, UNESCO, ICOMOS) were successfully administered.

HEKS/EPER is a Swiss NGO supporting Palestinian refugees in Lebanon since 2013 through local implementing agencies to support Palestinian Refugees from Syria (PRS) in Shatila and and Burj El Barajneh Camps. In 2017, HEKS/EPER contracted Agency RED to identify livelihood opportunities for the refugees. RED focus has for mission to identify possible livelihood interventions for PRS and hosting communities that might lead to employment, self-employment opportunities and income generating activities to mitigate poverty among refugees and host community and reduce their dependency on external aid and to assess partner organizations, community associations, cooperatives and other types of structures that have the capacity to implement part of the livelihood and resilience projects.

As part of its Recovery Initiative for the CAR, the French Development Agency called on the RED-TDS consortium to conduct an identification mission for the setting up of an analytical laboratory / dialogue platform in the CAR. In order to contribute to the recovery of the country, the objectives of AFD’s analytical laboratory / dialogue platform project in CAR are to pool and develop data and knowledge in CAR, to enable dialogue and networking between the different actors working for recovery of the country, support for decision-making and governance, and the monitoring and evaluation of the actions implemented. In this context, the objectives of the identification mission carried out by the RED-TDS consortium were to identify and precise the concepts carried by the analytical laboratory / dialogue platform, to identify the actors involved in recovery initiatives and to define the operational and administrative aspects required for such a structure to function.

In April 2017, Expertise France requested the services of a waste management expert to carry out a mission to identify the needs of MINUSCA in Bangui, Central African Republic (CAR), in terms of waste management. MINUSCA is the international peacekeeping force which has been deployed to the CAR following the unrest that has developed in the country in recent years.
